TV personalities Boy Abunda and Joey De Leon are urging taxpayers to pay their taxes ahead of the April 15, 2024-deadline, emphasizing the importance of doing so for peace of mind.
In a 35-second video shared by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Abunda, a television host, publicist and talent manager, shared his thoughts on tax payment practices.
Recalling his past behavior, Abunda disclosed, "I used to tell my accountant, 'Let's pay later, there's still time.' But through the years, I've learned that it's better to pay our taxes early for peace of mind."
De Leon, speaking in a separate video clip also featured on the BIR Facebook page, emphasized the importance of paying the right taxes as a civic duty for every Filipino to assist the government in financing its programs and projects.
"Paying the correct taxes is the obligation of every citizen. The government encourages everyone to pay the right taxes in order to raise enough funds to implement public projects. In this way, the local industry thrives," he said.
The two celebrities concluded by underlining, "Remember, with proper tax compliance, progress can be achieved swiftly."
Earlier, BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui Jr. reminded the public to file their annual income tax returns (ITRs) on time to avoid penalties that could reach up to P25,000 or more.
