ILOILO CITY – An M16 rifle recovered by the Philippine Army in an encounter with the New People’s Army (NPA) in San Joaquin, Iloilo was found to be one of the high-powered firearms taken from the Maasin, Iloilo police station in a raid in 2017.

“It was among the weapons carted away by the NPA rebels when they attacked Maasin Police Station in 2017,” said Brig. Gen. Michael Samson, commander of the 301st Infantry Brigade.
Nine policemen were disarmed and handcuffed when around 40 NPA rebels stormed the Maasin police station on June 18, 2017.
The communist rebels carted away eight M16 rifles, four Glock pistols, five handheld radios, two laptop computers, and P29,000 in cash.
Four NPA fighters were killed and another was injured in the February 28 to 29 clash with the 61st Infantry Battalion.
