QC showcases art pieces made from scrap materials


The Quezon City government opened on Tuesday, Feb. 27, an art exhibit at the City Hall that showcases creations made from scrap materials.

The exhibit titled “Mga Kwento at Kwenta ng Basura: Art in the City Festival: An Upcycling Mixed-Media Art Contest” features artworks from different local contests in the city.

Present during the ribbon-cutting ceremony were District Councilor Joseph Visaya, Sustainable Development Projects Officer Mr. Emmanuel Hugh Velasco, Sanitation and Clean-up Works Department head Mr. Richard Santuile, Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department assistant head Mr. Vincent Ferdinand Paul G. Vinarao, and City Tourism Department officer-in-charge Ms. Tetta Tirona.

Team Commonwealth won the first prize with their masterpiece titled "Piraso: Mosaic Style Artwork".

The second prize was won by the City's Artist artwork titled "Modern Paradise", and the third prize went to the Villa Berde Food Forest Farm for their creation titled "Sibol: A Blooming of Growth and Renewal".

The artworks were reviewed and judged by Mr. Edison Molanida of NCCA, Mr. Leslie Araujo (Lego Users Grp), and visual artist Mr. Tomas Leonor.

The art exhibit runs until February 29 at the Legislative Atrium, Quezon City Hall.
