Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan praised the decision of President Marcos, Jr. to sign the Amendments to the Centenarians Act (Republic Act 11982) that gives P10,000 cash incentive to senior citizens reaching the age of 80, 85, 90, and 95.

"Good news ‘yan, dahil ang ating mga minamahal na senior citizens dito sa Lungsod ng Maynila ay kabilang sa mga tatanggap ng P10,000 cash gift mula sa national government pagsapit nila sa edad na 80, 85, 90, at 95 batay sa tagubilin ng bagong batas (That's good news, because our beloved senior citizens here in the City of Manila are among those who will receive a P10,000 cash gift from the national government when they reach the age of 80, 85, 90, and 95 based on the instructions of the new law)," Mayor Honey said.

According to the mayor, there are about 180,000 senior citizens registered in Manila based on records from the Office of Senior Citizens' Affairs (OSCA) under Elinor Jacinto.

Lacuna-Pangan said 23 centenarians were given by the local government their P100,000 cash gift as of 2023, as provided by the law.

She noted that centenarians who are residing in Manila receive a total of P200,000,  P100,000 of which came from the city government and another P100,000 from the national government.

Senior citizens in Manila also receive monthly financial assistance of P500 each aside from birthday cakes, senior Christmas boxes, and monthly allocation of their maintenance medicines.

Third District Congressman Joel Chua was also grateful to President Marcos, as he also expressed hope in updating the OSCA database to ensure that the data or records of Manila will align with those of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the National Commission of Senior Citizens, and other concerned national government agencies.

Chua, who is also a member of the House Committee on Economic Affairs, said Manila residents are also bound to benefit from the Tatak Pinoy (Proudly Filipino) Act or Republic Act 11981, which was likewise signed by President Marcos.

"Dati nang sentro ng kalakalan at negosyo ang Maynila mula pa noong bago pa man dumating ang mga mananakop na Espanyol. Kapag naipatupad nang maayos ng Tatak Pinoy Act, inaasahang mas lalakas pa ang mga produkto at serbisyong Pinoy, lalo na iyong mga itinatapat sa gawa ng ibang bansa, tulad ng electronics, highly-skilled professionals at specialists, artista, manunulat at mga produktong sakahan at pangingisda (Manila has been a center of trade and business even before the arrival of the Spanish conquerors. When the Tatak Pinoy Act is properly implemented, it is expected that Filipino products and services will be even stronger than those that are manufactured by other countries, such as electronics, highly-skilled professionals, specialists, artists, writers, farm products and fishing)," Chua explained.
