The Tropang Giga wingman was diagnosed with myocarditis, a heart condition that is expected to sideline him for at least six months.

Pogoy, who last saw action in the 2023 FIBA World Cup in September, managed to swiftly return after getting a clearance as early as December.

"We are just happy to see him play again for a while there. Akala namin si Roger matatagalan siya," TNT head coach Jojo Lastimosa said of Pogoy who made his return in the Tropang Giga's 116-96 victory over the Phoenix Fuel Masters that also sealed their spot in the quarterfinals.

"The first prognosis was six months but he's back in three months and that's great news for all of us. Not just from a career standpoint but just for Roger being healthy again," added Lastimosa.

Pogoy finished with 11 points built on three triples to go along with three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 21 minutes of action as TNT tried to ease him back into the scheme of things after a long layoff.

Pogoy, for his part, believed his quick recovery and swift return to the lineup came as a big miracle.

“Una kasi sabi ng doktor 6 months so miracle talaga kasi nagpa-MRI ako ulit [and] wala naman nang nakita so talagang miracle talaga ni Lord,” he added.

The 6-foot-3 guard’s return is certainly a huge boost for the Tropang Giga offensively especially facing a twice-to-win disadvantage in the quarterfinals against the top seed Magnolia Hotshots.

“Whatever that is happening to us right now is just going to be a bonus,” said Lastimosa.
