Man admits killing noted voice coach

CEBU CITY – A 21-year-old man has admitted to killing “Coach J,” a known voice coach here.

Sanny Lumangca, a 21-year-old native of Clarin, Misamis Occidental, has executed an extrajudicial confession in which he admitted killing Joel Jude Suson Unchuan, said Police Lt. Col. Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) chief Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin.

A SUSPECT in the killing of Unchuan surrendered to the police on Friday, January 12.

Lumangca’s execution of an extrajudicial confession was witnessed by two independent lawyers, Pelare said.

The suspect surrendered to the  Naga City Police Office on Friday, January 12.

Lumangca surrendered after the police announced that they were looking into some personalities who could be behind the killing based on the information gathered through the forensic examination on the victim’s Sports Utility Vehicle.

Pelare said investigators are not discounting the possibility that there are other individuals involved in the crime despite Lumangca’s admission that he had no companion when the victim was killed.

Personal grudge was the motive of the crime, Pelare said.

Pelare said that the suspect confessed that he and the victim argued inside the vehicle before he killed Unchuan.

Initial reports showed that strangulation was one of the possible causes of the victim’s death.

Unchuan’s body was dumped by the road in Naga City, Cebu on December 30.

After dumping the body’s victim, the suspect drove the suspect’s vehicle to Liloan town, Cebu. The suspect then abandoned the victim’s car in Liloan and fled.

“We will validate what he admitted in his extrajudicial confession with our back-tracking of CCTV footage and other pieces of evidence that had been gathered,” said Pelare.

With the admission, police have the basis to file a murder case against the suspect, Pelare said.
