10th anniversary of Zamboanga City Siege marked


ZAMBOANGA CITY – Mayor John Dalipe here led a program commemorating the tenth anniversary of the infamous Zamboanga City siege on Saturday, September 9.

Ten years ago on September 9, 2013, extremist rebels forced their way and held six barangays here hostage.

The memorial ceremony involved a wreath-laying, a 21-gun salute, playing of Taps, and recognition of fallen soldiers who fought valiantly against secessionist rebels.

The city government also honored media organizations who provided reports during the siege.

Dalipe urged residents to remember the fallen heroes as he underscored the need to maintain  peace and security here.

Also present during the ceremony were Zamboanga City first district Rep. Khymer Olaso, Vice Mayor Pinpin Pareja, city hall department heads, and officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police.
