Comelec in Rizal lists more than 8,000 barangay, Sangguniang Kabataan poll candidates


A total of 8,565 candidates for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in October formally filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) from Aug. 28 to Sept. 2.

The office of Atty. Arnulfo Pioquinto, provincial election supervisor of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Rizal Province, said that out of the number of filers, 575 individuals filed their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) as barangay chairman.

There are 4,350 individuals who are aspiring to become members of the Sangguniang Barangay, known as kagawad.

For the youth polls, 496 aspirants for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections have officially made their intention to run for public office.

A total of 3,144 SK kagawads also filed their COCs before their respective local election offices in the city or municipality where they reside or intend to run.

The Comelec Rizal said the filing of candidacy for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) went on smoothly without any major glitches or violence.

Voters aged 18 and above on the day of election on October 30 will elect one barangay chairman and seven "kagawads", while youth voters aged 15 to 24 are entitled to elect an SK chairman and seven SK kagawads.
