BIR receives award for empowering women


The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has been acknowledged by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) for its he contribution to the advancement and empowerment of women in public service.

The PCW has awarded the BIR with the prestigious Gender and Development Transformation and Institutionalization through Mainstreaming of Programs, Agenda, Linkages, and Advocacies (GADtimpala).

According to the PCW, the BIR's management has demonstrated a commitment to gender-responsive taxation policies. 

It added the bureau has been conducting tax research to analyze how tax measures affect women and men differently and have established mechanisms to support taxpayers in vulnerable or marginalized situations in meeting their tax obligations.

BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr. expressed pride in receiving the award, highlighting the invaluable contributions of female employees to the BIR's achievements and its growth as a public service institution.

The GADtimpala, initiated by the PCW in 2013, serves as a recognition system for government and private entities that excel in upholding women's rights and implementing gender-responsive programs effectively.

During the 14th Anniversary of the Magna Carta of Women at SM Aura Premier in Taguig City, the BIR was presented with the GADtimpala 2023 glass marker and the "Liwanag" trophy which symbolizes women's dignity and fortitude.
