President Marcos appoints 5 justices to Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan, Court of Tax Appeals


President Marcos has appointed five new associate justices to the Court of Appeals (CA), Sandiganbayan, and Court of Tax Appeals (CTA).

Appointed CA Associate Justices were Ma. Consejo Mapa Gengos-Ignalaga, Raymond Joseph Guevarra Javier, and Lorna Francisca Catris Chua Cheng.  

For the Sandiganbayan, appointed was Associate Justice Juliet Marquez Manalo-San Gaspar, while Henry Sumaway Angeles was named CTA associate justice.

Their appointments were relayed to Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin.

The Supreme Court (SC) said that except for CTA Associate Justice Angeles, the four new judiciary appointees have taken their oaths of office before Chief Justice Gesmundo.

Associate Justices Ignalaga, Javier, and Chua Cheng, took over, respectively, the posts vacated by retired CA associate justices Manuel M. Barrios and Joida S. Pasadas Kahulugan, and Maria Filomena D. Singh who was promoted to the SC.    

Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Manalo-San Gaspar took the post vacated by then Associate Justice Alex L. Quiroz who had been appointed by President Marcos as chairperson of the Governance Commission for Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations (GC-GOCCs).

Associate Justice Angeles replaced then CTA Associate Justice Erlinda P. Uy. Later, Uy had been appointed member of the Judicial and Bar Council -- the constitutional office that accepts, screens and nominates appointments in the judiciary – representing the Integrated Bar of the Philippines in the JBC.
