Tricycle driver admits murdering live-in partner, 2 kids

TACLOBAN CITY – Bothered by his conscience, a tricycle driver admitted to killing his live-in partner and their two children in a farm in Barangay Pupua, Catbalogan City, Samar, almost a month after the incident on August 30.

Suspect Edito Candiz, 42, said he and his common-law wife, Rea Oreo, 26, had a heated argument, which dragged on for days.

The argument stemmed from his stepson who was allegedly taken by Oreo's ex-husband. However, Oreo told him that the boy was taken by his grandmother which made him jealous.

In his initial statement, Candiz said he found Oreo and their three-year-old daughter and five-month-old son bathing in their blood in front of their house about 200 meters away from the main road.

However, in his most recent statement, he recalled hacking his family to death at around 6:30 a.m. after which he took a bath and worked.

Candiz had earlier said he went home around 6 p.m. and reported to the barangay hall that his wife and children were killed.

Oreo and her children sustained multiple hack wounds that caused their instantaneous death.

The suspect also admitted to killing Oreo's father during a drinking spree in 2021.
