The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday, Sept. 22, mourned the sudden passing of Bayani “BF” Fernando, who served as a former chairman at the agency for seven years.

In a statement, the MMDA described Fernando as “a man of few words, workaholic, and a disciplinarian.”

“The MMDA is deeply saddened and shocked about the sudden demise of former Chairman Bayani F. Fernando,” it said.

Fernando, according to the agency, utilized scientific and practical approaches in his quest to solve the problems of Metro Manila.

The agency said he has transformed Metro Manila into a “livable metropolis.”

“He was the person behind rapid bus lanes and the ‘Metro Gwapo’ campaign,” the MMDA said.

“Under his helm, he put the MMDA in the spotlight.”

The MMDA has expressed gratitude to Fernando for his many contributions to the agency.

“Thank you very much for your contributions. Rest now, Sir, for you already got the job done,” the agency said.

Fernando, a mechanical engineer by profession, served as chairman of the MMDA from June 5, 2002 to Nov. 25, 2009.
