Negroni Week 2023: 7 best bars to celebrate the classic drink

Campari Philippines leads the upcoming festivities in Manila, La Union, and Cebu

The Negroni, one of the most beloved cocktails found in the finest bars everywhere, takes the spotlight during Negroni Week 2023. From Sept. 18 to Sept. 24, this event, led by Campari Philippines, features 100 participating bars spanning from Metro Manila to Northern Luzon, Calabarzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It is set to be the largest Negroni Week celebration in the country to date.

Originating from Cafe Casoni, a bar in Florence, Italy, the first Negroni is said to have been created by Fosco Scarselli in 1919. Count Camilo Negroni sought to elevate his beloved Americano by replacing soda with gin, topping it with an orange slice garnish, thus giving birth to an iconic drink.

In recent years, the cocktail gained widespread popularity, partly thanks to "House of Dragons" star Emma D’Arcy, who chose the Negroni Sbagliato as their drink of choice. Looking ahead to 2023, bartenders have put their own spin on the Negroni, creating everything from the classic concoctions with the likes of mezcal and rum to more playful flavors like strawberry and basil lime.

For Negroni Week 2023, Campari has announced a partnership with Slow Food, sharing values of sustainability and diversity. Slow Food, with its roots in Italy where the Negroni was born, boasts a global presence and platform. This year, Negroni Week includes a local competition among partners, with the highest Negroni sales earning a prize of P50,000.

To kickstart your celebratory mood, here’s the full schedule for Negroni Week 2023 featuring seven best bars:

  • Sept. 18: Opening party at Out of Office in BGG, Taguig
  • Sept. 19: Bar takeover at Electric Garden in BGC, Taguig
  • Sept. 20: Bar takeover at La Piazza in Okada, Pasay
  • Sept. 21: Masterclass and guest shift at Shangri-La at the Fort in BGC, Taguig
  • Sept. 22: Bar takeover at La Kantina, La Union
  • Sept. 23: Bar takeover at The Ugly Bar, La Union
  • Sept. 24: Bar takeover at La Kantina, La Union
  • Sept. 29: Closing party at Mott 32, Cebu
