Now on its second year, the Bike 4 Kalikasan will be held in Batangas City on Oct. 7, Saturday, from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. Take off point is at the Montemaria International Pilgrimage and Conference Center in the town of Ilijan and will go towards the Lagadlarin Mangrove Forest Park in Lobo, Batangas.

The 24-kilometer bike caravan aims to spread awareness on the need to protect and preserve the environment particularly the Verde Island Passage, which is considered as the center of marine shorefish biodiversity in the world.

The event is also part of the Church’s ongoing observance of the Season of Creation.

Caritas Philippines will lead the event in partnership with the Catholic Relief Services, Lipa Archdiocesan Social Action Center (LASAC), and the Lipa Archdiocesan Ministry on Environment (AMen).

Last year, more than1,200 volunteer bikers participated in the first bike caravan from the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila going to the La Mesa Dam Nature Reserve Eco Park in Quezon City, and which culminated with the launching of the Caritas Bamboo Forest Project.

Caritas Philippines president Kidapawan Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo earlier called on the faithful to be more involved in environmental care and protection and to be more responsible stewards of the environment.
