Caritas Philippines, the social action arm of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), will offer its first executive course on servant leadership and pastoral management for bishops of the Philippine Catholic church.
In a statement on Sunday, Sept. 10, Caritas president Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo underscored the importance of the initiative specifically to Catholic bishops.
"The Church is called to be a servant leader in society, and this course will help our bishops to better understand and embody this calling," Bagaforo said.
He pointed out that the course will be a "valuable resource for the bishops as they continue to lead the Church in its mission of love and service."
It aims to equip the bishops with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the complexities of their leadership roles.
Additionally, it seeks to empower them to further the Church's mission of social justice, development, and compassion.
The course, titled "Servant Leadership and Pastoral Management in Our Times," will be held from Sept. 18 to 23 at the Caritas Philippines Development Center in Tagaytay City.
The course will be conducted for the first time since the CBCP officially designated the Caritas Philippines Academy as the primary teaching and learning institute of the Catholic Church in November 2022.
Throughout the course, bishops will cover topics such as pastoral management, governance, communications, and organizational sustainability.
The curriculum will draw inspiration from corporate business principles and community development approaches while lined with the relevant social teachings of the Church.
