Housing project for 180 families displaced by Kalibo airport expansion starts


ILOILO CITY – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has kicked off the housing project for 180 families displaced by the expansion of the Kalibo International Airport in Aklan province.

DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista led the groundbreaking ceremony for the resettlement project in Kalibo town.

DOTr attached agency Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is partnering with the provincial government led by Gov. Joen Miraflores and municipal government of Kalibo under Mayor Juris Bautista Sucro for the project in Barangay Tigayon.

Bautista said this project is the government’s prompt assistance and support to those affected by the expansion of the airport that is the local gateway to Boracay Island, the country’s most famous beach destination in Malay town, Aklan.

The DOTr and CAAP is also collaborating with other national government agencies including the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), National Housing Authority (NHA), and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), for the project.
