Lawyer, live-in partner shot in Cebu


CEBU CITY – A 75-year-old lawyer and his 49-year-old live-in partner were shot and wounded inside their house in Compostela town, northern Cebu on Monday morning, August 7.

Police identified the victims as Emmanuel Pacquiao and Warlita Kintanar, 49.

The couple’s 49-year-old househelp, Jenalyn Lao, was also wounded in the attack.

The suspect, Fortunato Rosales, was arrested shortly after the incident, which happened around 8:25 a.m.

According to Police Executive Master Sgt. Oliver Pilapil Rondina, the suspect was looking for the lawyer when he arrived at the victims’ gated house in Barangay Estaca.

While outside the house, the suspect was entertained by Lao, who then called the lawyer to inform him that someone was looking for him.

When Pacquiao emerged from the house to check who the guest was, the suspect opened fire, hitting the lawyer in the leg.

Kintanar went outside the house to check the commotion but was also shot in the leg.

Police said that after shooting the couple, the suspect also stabbed the helper multiple times then fled.

Lawmen immediately conducted a hot-pursuit operation that led to the suspect’s arrest.

The victims were taken to the hospital.

A loaded .45 caliber pistol and kitchen knife were recovered from the suspect’s possession during the arrest.

Police are checking reports that land dispute could be the motive of the attack.
