The significance of the Philippine Women’s National Football Team's feat in the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup isn't lost on the House of Representatives.

That's why Speaker Martin Romualdez led other congressmen in extending their congratulations to the 23 members of the Filipinas for winning their July 25 match against New Zealand, one to nil, by adopting House Resolution (HR) No.1145.

“The 23 spirited Filipinas deserve utmost recognition and commendation,” read the resolution, which was adopted during plenary session Wednesday night, Aug. 2

The goal scored by the Filipinas at the Wellington Regional Stadium in New Zealand was recorded as the country’s first-ever goal in the competition’s history in either the men's or women's World Cup.

The “historic first win” was described in the resolution as a “clear testament to the Filipino women’s strength and determination to excel in sports at the global stage” like the 2023 Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

The solons congratulated and commended the team for displaying their “exemplary performance” and for “inspiring women and Filipino athletes of the next generation, and epitomizing the determination and passion bringing honor and pride to the nation.”

The resolution was signed by the Speaker, Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales, Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe, Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, Senior Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Marcos, and Tingog Party-list Reps. Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre.

HR No. 1145 was approved in consolidation with HR Nos. 1134 and 1137.
