Facebook page of Negros Occidental town hacked

BACOLOD CITY – The social media page of the municipality of E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental has been hacked.

In an advisory on Tuesday, August 22, the local government informed the public that its official Facebook (FB) page – Municipality of E. B. Magalona – has been hacked by unscrupulous individuals.

According to the E.B. Magalona Public Information Office (PIO), they are currently working to recover the page.

The PIO appealed to the people to report to Facebook any lewd and lascivious content being posted by hackers on their FB page.

They strongly advised the public to refrain from engaging with their Facebook page.

The E.B. Magalona Facebook page was hacked after that of Negros Occidental Rep. Francisco "Kiko" B. Benitez early this week.

On Tuesday, August 22, Benitez announced that the page was successfully reinstated to their administrators.

He extended its heartfelt appreciation to the Department of Information and Communications Technology, National Bureau of Investigation-Western Visayas, and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center for their dedication and prompt assistance.

He also thanked Meta Philippines Representative Office's Public Policy Team in Manila for their efforts.

Benitez reiterated its firm stance against all forms of cyber-attacks and strongly believes in the responsible use of technology for the betterment of the nation.

“We express our gratitude for the swift response from the public in reporting the incident and for abstaining from interaction with the content,” he said.

The Facebook page of the local government of Cadiz City was also hacked earlier this month.
