The Archdiocese of Manila has warned the faithful against groups that are not affiliated with the Catholic Church and to refrain from participating in the services of these churches that are “not in full communion” with the Catholic faith.

In a circular, Manila Chancellor Fr. Isidro Marinay called on the faithful to be watchful and vigilant after he confirmed that there are indeed individuals who attend the services of the churches thinking that they are Roman Catholic Churches.

“May we inform the faithful that these groups are not in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church. The sacraments that they administer are therefore invalid and illicit,” said Fr. Marinay.

According to reports, the said churches include the Brazilian Catholic Apostolic Church, the Old Roman Catholic and the Old Roman Catholic Church.

Fr. Marinay said the practices and vestments of these churches are identical with those of the Catholic Church, potentially misleading the faithfful.

Fr. Marinay reminded the members of the clergy to guide their parishioners properly and to assist those who are in need of their presence.

“We request our priests to inform our faithful for proper guidance regarding the matter and to instruct our parish secretaries to assist all those requesting priests for the celebration of the sacraments and sacramentals,” he said.
