Papal Nuncio to visit Pasig, hold Thanksgiving Mass on Aug. 21

Archbishop Charles John Brown, the current apostolic nuncio to the Philippines and titular archbishop of Aquileia, will visit Pasig City on Aug. 21 to mark the Diocese of Pasig’s 20th founding anniversary and the city’s 450th Jubilee year.

A thanksgiving Mass will be held at around 5 p.m. on Aug. 21 at the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral of Pasig, wherein Pasiguenos are invited to participate in the celebration and civic honors will be accorded by the local government.

On Monday, Aug. 14, the 11th Pasig City Council passed a resolution recognizing the essence of the event and extending the local government’s warmest welcome to the Archbishop.

As the city of Pasig and the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral commemorate dual milestones, the resolution stated that it is an “opportune time to retrace the history of Pasig City, as well as its Catholic heritage.”

The presence of the papal nuncio, who is coming as an “ecclesiastical diplomat,” will make the celebrations even more special and meaningful for many faithful and devotees.

The occasion will also give the nuncio ample time to meet and interact with the local diocese, as well as the Roman Catholic community of Pasig.

Archbishop Brown was assigned as the apostolic nuncio to the Philippines on Sept. 28, 2020 by Pope Francis, replacing the country’s former nuncio Archbishop Gabriel Caccia, who now serves as the Holy See’s Permanent Observer Mission in the United Nations.

The Apostolic Nunciature in the Philippines refers to the highest diplomatic mission assigned by the Vatican state to the country. As papal envoy, Brown represents the Holy See to the Philippine government, and also represents the Pope to the Philippine Catholic Church.
