Former PH volleyball queen Tisha Abundo dies at 74

Former queen of Philippine volleyball Teresita “Tisha” Abundo passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Aug. 1,3 at age 74, her family confirmed. 

Abundo, who served as the commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) from 1998 to 2001, was also a women sports advocate until her last breath. 

In 1969, Abundo personally received an honorary “Most Outstanding Female Volleyball Player ”recognition from the late President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. 

The Presidential Award came when Abundo represented the Philippines at the Asian Games in 1966 and 1970 including a stint in the Universiade famously known as the World University Games in Tokyo, Japan in 1967 and the Asian Zonal Volleyball Championships in Manila.
