OVP vows improved delivery of services to Zamboanga City Jail PDLs

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) Zamboanga Satellite Office conferred Monday, Aug. 14, with officials of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in a bid to improve the living conditions of the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in the Zamboanga City Jail facility.

During the visit, OVP Satellite Office manager Michael Angelo Saavedra said they are working  to introduce innovations to improve and upgrade the many facets of the management of the Zamboanga’s reformatory center.

For his part Zamboanga City Jail warden Jail Supt. Xavier Solda expressed gratutude to the Office of the Vice President for the attention  being given to the PDLs.

“We really appreciate the Office of the Vice President for extending their services behind bars, helping the poorest of the poor and the most marginalized in our society under our care," Solda said.

BJMP chief Jail Director Ruel Rivera encouraged the Zamboanga City Jail to continue with its efforts to bring impactful reforms for the PDLs in Zamboanga, particularly on education,  livelihood, health and paralegal support services. 

At present, Zamboanga City Jail Male and Female Dormitories are focused in providing humane safekeeping and developmental opportunities to 2,258 PDL under their supervision.
