Pumpboat operators in Surigao receive P1-M livelihood assistance from DOLE-Caraga


BUTUAN CITY – Pumpboat operators in San Agustin, Surigao del Sur have received P1 million as livelihood assistance from the government.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Caraga Director Joffrey M. Suyao said 60 members of the  Britania Pumpboat Association received the livelihood assistance released through the Service Quality Improvement Program (SQUIP) of the DOLE-Caraga, in partnership with Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Tourism (DOT), and the local government unit.

The turnover was attended by Suyao, DOLE Surigao del Sur Field Office head Genebelle B. Bal, DOLE Caraga TSSD chief Annie C. Tangpos, RTWPB Board Secretary VI Earl D. dela Victoria, TESDA Surigao del Sur Provincial Director Romel M. Natad, San Agustin  Mayor Engr. Nicolas O. Alameda, San Agustin Sangguniang Bayan members Clifford Corvera and Sebastian Campos, PESO Manager Franklin A. Navaja, Provincial Senior Tourism Officer Peter Ferdinand S. Luna, Barangay Britania Captain  Andres M. Escudero, and officers and members of the Britania Pumpboat Association chaired by Samuel Ladeza.

Suyao said that the convergence program is a pilot project of DOLE-Caraga and thanked partner-agencies for realizing the project.

Ladeza said that he is committed to lead the group in making Britania a tourism and economic center in San Agustin thru the innovations and economic activities which will augment the income of workers and help other fisherfolk.

SQUIP is in line with DOLE’s strategic objective to maximize organizational performance, reinforce efficiency in the delivery of programs and services, and urge consistency in policy and program implementation, Suyao said.
