Cainta police provide security to slain caregiver's family

The Cainta Rizal Police said that it has already provided security to the family of the caregiver whose body was found stuffed in a plastic drum early this week.

Major Alfonso Saligumba III, Cainta police chief, told Manila Bulletin that police personnel have been deployed to the residence of the family of Maribel Bacsal, the 42-year-old caregiver whose body was found stuffed in a container in Brookside Hills Subdivision, Cainta, Rizal on July 3.

Earlier, the 32-year-old sister of Bacsal said their family has been fearing for their safety as the suspect remained at-large.

Saligumba said the primary suspect, a certain Kenneth Duncan, with aliases Kenneth Tan and Chenny Chen, had already fled to Taiwan prior to the discovery of the victim’s body.

The chief of police said authorities here will seek the assistance of the Interpol or the Taiwanese government to locate the suspect as soon as criminal charges are filed against him.

Police said Duncan, who is a son of the two elderly couple employer of Bacsal, had been tagged as the primary suspect in the killing after witnesses claimed that he went to his parents’ house in Cainta during the time that the victim was reported missing.

Several belongings of Bacsal were also found in the suspect's house along with a chef’s knife believed to be the weapon used in the killing.

Bacsal’s body was found inside a plastic container covered with another container after neighbors noticed a foul odor coming from the elderly couple’s compound in the afternoon of July 3.

She failed to return home since she left her residence on June 29.

The suspect’s mother, said to be in her 80’s, was also tagged by police as an accessory to the crime as she had concealed information about the crime and the whereabouts of his son, according to Maj. Saligumba III.

She also denied seeing the caregiver prior to the discovery of her body, claiming the victim did not report for work since Thursday.

The victim’s sister also claimed that their family wants to cremate and bring the remains of Bacsal to their home province.

Bacsal’s sister earlier said that she wants to ask the help of Senator Raffy Tulfo in their quest for justice.

Police said probers were preparing to file criminal charges against Duncan and his mother, and they were closely coordinating with the legal team of the Rizal Police Provincial Office to build a strong case against the suspects.
