Bayambang, Pangasinan Mayor Niña Quiambao highlights ‘motherly approach to governance’ in first SOMA

BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan – Mayor Mary Clare Judith Phyllis “Niña” Jose-Quiambao highlighted her “motherly approach” to governance during her first State-of-the-Municipality Address at the Balon Bayambang Events Center here on Wednesday, July 5.

Looking pretty in her elegant, peach long gown, the former actress and first female mayor of Bayambang mesmerized the appreciative constituents as she outlined the areas of concern which her administration – the so-called Quiambao-Sabangan administration 2.0 – focused on since she was elected.

Under Quiambao, the administration focused on six major thrusts, education for all, health for all, protection of women and children, jobs and livelihood for all, agricultural modernization, and honest and efficient public servants.

"Sabay-sabay nating ipagmalaki ang kuwento ng ating bayan, ang kuwento ng mga Bayambangueño na naghirap, ngunit hindi sumuko, ang kuwento ng pamilya na abot-kamay na ang isang maginhawang buhay at natatanaw na ang magandang kinabukasan ng bawat isa (Let us be proud of the story of our town, the story of the people of Bayambang who were poor but never gave up, the story of the family who strived to achieve a good life)," said Quiambao.

Some of the Bayambangueños who attended the mayor’s first SOMA were able to express their gratitude as they said their lives became better with the programs and projects of the Quiambao-Sabangan administration 2.0.

"Sa tulong po ng LGU, napanatili pong malusog ang aking pagbubuntis, at naging malusog din po ang aking baby noong siya ay pinanganak (With the help of the LGU, I felt better during my pregnancy and my baby was born healthy as well),” said Rosemary dela Cruz from Barangay Bacnano.

Dela Cruz was a beneficiary of the free checkup and supplementary feeding program for nutritionally at-risk pregnant women of the Rural Health Unit and the Municipal Nutrition Action Office.

Another resident, Eva Capiro of Barangay Carungay, also expressed her gratitude to the mayor and local government unit.

"Dahil sa kanila po dito, napa-operahan ko po ang aking anak tapos hanggang po noong na-detect 'yung sakit ng anak ko sa puso (Because of the LGU, my baby was successfully operated and her heart problem detected),” said Capiro, adding that her child is now healthy and on the road to full recovery.

Celia A. Velasco said she earned some income, thanks to the Goat Dairy Project that provides livelihood to residents of Barangay Mangayao.

"Noon po wala po kaming masyadong kita, naghihintay lang po kami kung mayroong trabaho, unlike po ngayon, 'pag naka-duty po kami, meron po kaming inaasahan na suweldo sa pang-araw-araw naming pangangailangan (Unlike before we had less earnings as we were only relying on one breadwinner, now, we enjoy some fixed earnings every month),” said Velasco.

Couple Norelyn and Henry Camacho also received assistance from the LGU after their house was destroyed by a typhoon.

Quiambao announced upcoming projects under the Quiambao-Sabangan administration 2.0 such as the opening of the Julius K. Quiambao Medical and Wellness Center in January 2024.

The mayor also announced the groundbreaking for the 67-hectare New Township Development Project that starts with the Bayambang Promenade and the amusement park.
