CAVITE – Amid a Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban in Bacoor City ahead of a plebiscite, authorities nabbed a security guard over an indiscriminate firing incident in Barangay San Nicolas I on Tuesday, July 4.

The Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) identified the suspect as Arnulfo Edwin C. Trinidad, 58 years old.

Initial investigation showed that Trinidad was under the influence of alcohol while on duty. He reportedly pointed his issued firearm upwards and fired it several times, prompting barangay officials and police on patrol to respond.

Authorities seized the firearm from the suspect and recovered four fired cartridges at the crime scene.

Trinidad was subjected to a paraffin examination while the pieces of evidence were turned over to the Cavite Provincial Forensic Unit for further examination.

The suspect is now under the custody of the Bacoor City Police Station and is facing charges for indiscriminate firing and violating the Comelec gun ban.

A gun ban is implemented in Bacoor from June 28 to August 5 in connection with the plebiscite to merge 44 barangays into 18 villages on July 29.
