Display PH flag to celebrate National Heroes Day, Abalos orders LGUs


Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr.directed the local government units (LGUs) to display the Philippine flag in all public offices and other establishments in their jurisdictions to commemorate the National Heroes Day on Aug. 28.

In Memorandum Circular 2023-098, Abalos stated that the order is pursuant to Republic Act No. 9492 series of 2007 mandating the country to observe the event every fourth Monday of Aug ‘every year.’

“All DILG regional directors shall cause the immediate and widest dissemination of the memorandum/circular to all LGUs within their jurisdictions,’’ Abalos stressed.

In strictly imposing the order to the LGUs, Abalos asserted that this is to honor the ‘great deeds of our national heroes.’

With the theme “Karangalan, Katungkulan, Kabayanihan’’, Abalos noted that the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Department of National Defense (DND) will conduct commemoratives rites with the other government agencies and non-government organizations (NGOs).

“The NHCP, the DND, and the AFP will conduct fitting commemorative rites, in cooperation with other government agencies and non-government organizations at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on Aug. 28, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.,’’ Abalos said.

Abalos said that the order is directed to all provincial governors, city mayors, municipal mayors, punong barangays, DILG Regional Directors and other concerned parties.
