Pasay LGU plants trees for 'Arbor Day'

The Pasay City government conducted a tree planting activity at Malasakit Garden in Barangay 40 on Tuesday, July 18, in observance of Philippine Arbor Day.

Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano was joined by some students and teachers from the city's daycare centers during the tree planting themed “Isang Tao, Isang Buto, Buong Bansa, Buong Mundo”.

Daycare students were chosen to join in the activity to educate them on the importance of planting trees and taking care of nature at an early age.

Teresita Calixto-Robles, director of "I Care for Mother Earth",  and representatives from the Bureau of Plant Industry of the Department of Agriculture (DA) also joined in the tree planting activity.

Rubiano said the tree planting was also done in line with the city government’s grand vision of becoming a smart and sustainable EcoCity.

She said in order for the local government to achieve the city’s vision, planting and caring for our Mother Earth should be a permanent priority.

“An EcoCity will not be an EcoCity without planting trees, taking care of our environment, and thriving while being environmentally sound and conscious,” Rubiano said.

Arbor Day in the Philippines has been institutionalized to be observed every June 25. To celebrate the occasion, environmental activities such as planting trees and ornamental plants are held.
