Is this the future of flying economy? Yes, for airlines who may want to sell more seats and budget hunters in search for more discounts on the airfare. But a big no for claustrophobic passengers already complaining about dwindling seat space in newer aircrafts. This double-level airplane seats were introduced in a prototype created by Alejandro Nuez Vicente, CEO and founder of Chaise Lounge, a UK firm creating high-quality upholstered furniture. He claims the design "will make the economy class better for all those travelers that can't afford more expensive tickets." Vicente's prototype was nominated for the "Crystal Cabin Awards" and presented at the Aircraft Interiors Expo last June 6–8, 2023 in Germany.
The latest travel news, however, has sparked a heated discussion among air travelers, with many expressing a range of emotions from curiosity to irk. Some expressed that the design would be less "dangerous" in case of an air emergency. What are your thoughts on this design? Would you want to ride in this double-decker seat if it comes at a discounted price?
