Valenzuela LGU breaks ground for ‘Proyektong Kakaiba’ buildings


Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian on Monday, June 5, led the groundbreaking ceremonies for the construction and rehabilitation of several “Proyektong Kakaiba” buildings in the city on Monday, June 5. 

Among the establishments to be built and improved are the new Valenzuela City Emergency Hospital (VCEH) multi-level parking building, new annex building, and its main building in Barangay Dalandanan; and the Valenzuela City Central Kitchen in Barangay Malinta.

The city government said that it initiated the renovation of the VCEH main building with a P70,000,000 budget, which features different facilities such as an emergency complex, laboratories, delivery complex, and isolation wards.

It has also allotted P53,000,000 for the construction of hospital’s new three-story annex building.

It will be built on 755 square meters of land within the hospital’s vicinity and will feature various facilities including a medical records room, cashier’s room, breastfeeding room, a Malasakit Center, PhilHealth Office, and a medical social service office which will cater mostly to the out-patient department of the hospital. 

Meanwhile, a new 37-slot multi-level parking building will also be built in the area.

The city government also broke ground for the construction of the new and improved Valenzuela City Central Kitchen in Bukid, Barangay Malinta.

The said two-story facility aims to serve as a preparation area for food that will be distributed to the beneficiaries of the city government’s feeding programs.

It will stand on a 1,315-square meter lot and will be equipped with facilities such as cold storage, dry storage, general supplies storage, loading bay, 6-slot parking area, generator room, pump room, liquified petroleum gas (LPG) room, temporary waste holding area, food preparation room, main kitchen, packaging room, and staging area. 

The city government allotted P40,000,000 from its funds for the project.

The first kitchen was built in Sitio Balubaran, Barangay Malinta in October 2012 during the term of former Valenzuela City Mayor and now Senator Win Gatchalian, in partnership with the Ateneo Center for Education Development (ACED) and Schools Division Office - Valenzuela, and has served over 70,000 beneficiaries.

Mayor Gatchalian thanked the ACED for their help in making the program for Valenzuelanos successful.

He added that the city government dedicated the day of the kitchen’s groudbreaking ceremony to the 1,000 volunteers who helped in providing food to the citizens in need.

Present during the event were Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, ACED Director Dr. Carmela Oracion, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Ibañez, City Health Officer Dr. Marthony Basco, City Councilors Marlon Alejandrino, Ricar Enriquez, Ghogho Deato Lee, Cris Feliciano, Chiqui Carreon, Niña Lopez, Atty. Bimbo Dela Cruz, Louie Nolasco, Gerald Galang, Mickey Pineda, Ramon Encarnacion, Sel Sabino-Sy, Liga ng mga Barangay President Councilor Jonjon Bartolome, SK Federation President Councilor Goyong Serrano, Malinta Punong Barangay Jepoy Abiera and Council, Dalandanan Punong Barangay Benny Encarnacion and Council, Mayoress Tiffany Gatchalian, and all the Central Kitchen volunteers.

The Proyektong Kakaiba intends to build or rehabilitate different facilities in the city to enable the local government serve the citizens better.  

The ACED, established in 1997, aims to close poverty gap, improve the quality of life of the poor and performance of public schools facilitating partnerships with individuals and institutions to marshal human and material resources (according to www.ateneo.edu).
