The fire status escalated to second alarm at 10:44 p.m. and was declared under control at around 11:20 p.m. It was extinguished at 11:34 p.m.

Citing BFP’s initial investigation on the incident, Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Roderick Tongcol said the fire was caused by a lit candle that was left in one of the houses in the area.

The incident is still under investigation.

Earlier, the city mayor and different city departments also sent help, including hygiene kits, food packs, woven mats, and non-food items, to the victims who temporarily evacuated to the Muzon Covered Court.

"Communities in urbanized areas such as Malabon City are prone to fire incidents. The Philippine Red Cross has volunteers, firefighters, and staff trained and prepared to immediately respond to this kind of incident," PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard J. Gordon said.
