Tito Sotto on ‘Eat Bulaga’ brand: ‘We will fight for it’

A new iteration of “Eat Bulaga” aired Monday, June 5, on GMA.

But the battle is far from over.

Tito Sotto, one of the original hosts of the show, appeared the same day on CNN Philippines, maintaining they are going to fight for ownership of the brand.

He said “For us, we follow the international rule... the creators are the owners... the title was created by Joey (de Leon, co-host) so, we will fight for it.”

According to Tito, the same applies to the show’s popular segments.

“The writers own that,” he maintained, going on to note the original show theme was created by his brother Vic Sotto.

“Everybody acknowledges that,” he said.

As to TAPE supposedly already owning the copyright of the show's title, he said, “What they applied for was for merchandising, goods.”

Asked to respond to Bullet Jalosjos’ query as to what exactly it was that they wanted prior to their disengagement with them, Tito replied, “They should have just left (the show) alone."

"It was doing well. Dapat hindi pinakialaman.”

As of the moment, Tito and company are still mulling their next move.

Tito intimated, “We’ve been receiving invitations from at least four or five TV stations so...if things work out the way we want it to, baka first week of July (mag-air na kami).”

Asked where, he said, “By June 7 we will be ready to announce.”
