“We honor the contributions of the late Sen. Rodolfo G. Biazon (1923-2023), who served as a Senator in 1992-1995 and 1998-2010, and as the Representative of Muntinlupa in 2010-2016. He joined our Creator after bravely fighting lung cancer, age 88,” the Taguig City government posted on Facebook.

It said that “in his youth, he survived the Japanese regime and extreme poverty. He entered the Philippine Military Academy after obtaining a degree in mechanical engineering. He may have been the class goat of the Class of 1961, but his steadfast dedication helped him rise through the ranks. He ultimately became Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in 1991 and ended his stint with the military a bemedaled soldier.”

“As a senator, heavily influenced by his personal experiences, he became a staunch advocate of national defense and security, as well as housing and human settlements. He worked on measures ensuring access to low-cost housing and institutionalizing soldiers’ welfare,” the city government stated.

Biazon, it added, authored laws including Republic Act 9208 (Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003), RA 7898 (An Act providing for the Modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines), RA 7889 (An Act Establishing the University of the Philippines Mindanao), Joint Resolution No. 7 (Increasing the Subsistence Allowance of Soldiers and Policemen) and RA 9049 (An Act Granting Monthly Gratuity and Privileges to an Awardee of the Medal of Valor).

“He is gone from us, but the memory of Sen. Biazon will live on in the lives his nationalism, compassion, and public service touched,” the Taguig City government stated.
