BORONGAN CITY – To enhance travel experience to and from this city, a new departure terminal at the Borongan Airport was inaugurated on Monday, June 19, in Barangay Punta Maria here to meet the growing number of passengers and foster economic growth.
Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda here said the development is a result of their collective desire for the airport that is now coming to fruition.
"Our next assignment is to develop a good seaport to encourage shipping vessels to dock in Borongan to finally complete the chain of our food security in the region and this flight would pave the way for economic development and prosperity," Agda said.
Agda assured local businesses of the city government's support.
"We need to seize this opportunity, especially our businessmen. Please do not allow that one day, you will be overtaken by investors from outside the province."
Ruperto Ambil II, Borongan City flight operations chairman and city information officer, reported that they have catered to 2,118 inbound and 1,904 outbound passengers in six months.
He said the 4,022 passengers in six months is higher than Siargao Island’s first three years with flights with only 1,126.
"We adopt best practices in other areas and improve on it," he said, adding that they had a total of 86 flights from December last year to May despite the unpredictable weather.
Borongan to Cebu flights by Philippine Airlines that started on Dec. 19, 2022 using an 86-seat aircraft depart every Monday and Friday at 12:30 p.m.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Borongan city government recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to develop and maintain the airport.
Development projects include the construction of a new passenger terminal building.
