San Miguel Beer allayed fears of any major injury on star guard Terrence Romeo after being pulled out in the first half of its 111-113 overtime loss to Converge during their PBA on Tour game on Sunday, June 18.

Team manager Gee Abanilla confirmed to Manila Bulletin that the flamboyant playmaker experienced some tightening on his hamstring which prompted head coach Jorge Gallent to just rest him for the rest of the game.

Romeo exited in the first half and never returned, playing for only 14 minutes to finish with five points on 2-of-9 shooting from the field apart from five rebounds and an assist.

“Hindi naman na reinjure, nag-tight lang hamstring niya so our PTs opted to ice it and rest him for the remainder of the game for further assessment,” said in a text message.

Still, it was a huge setback for Romeo who has been showing flashes of his old, deadly form in the pre-season tournament averaging 21.8 points, 4.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds through five games.

Without Romeo, it was Jericho Cruz who picked up the slack for SMB with 42 points although still weren’t enough as the Beermen lost on a late layup from Jerrick Balanza in overtime.

SMB, for its part, is also taking extra precaution especially with Romeo coming off the hamstring injury that sidelined him for the most part of last season where he saw a grand total of eight games throughout the year.

“Okay naman siya pero syempre they still have to observe para sigurado tayo,” he added.

Good thing, the Beermen won’t be seeing action in the PBA on Tour until next week June 28 when it takes on NLEX, allowing Romeo to rest his injured hamstring.
