Is Korean actor Im Siwan joining ‘Squid Game' season 2? Script reading to start next week 


“Squid Game,” the hit Korean series on Netflix, has attracted attention on who will appear in season 2. 

A Korean media outlet reported that actor Im Siwan (Yim Siwan) has been cast in “Squid Game” season 2. He starred in the Netflix film “Unlocked,” which was released early this year.

Regarding the report, Netflix and his agency, Plum A&C, told media outlet News1 on June 15 that "there is nothing we can confirm at this time."

The original “Squid Game,” released in September 2021, garnered 1.65 billion hours viewed in the first 28 days on Netflix. 

It starred Lee Jung-jae, Jung Hoyeon, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi and Kim Joo-ryoung.

A separate news report by media outlet Sports Chosun on June 16 quoted a source from the entertainment industry as saying that the script reading for “Squid Game” 2 will start on June 23. 

It added that the first filming will be done in early July. Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun will star in season 2. 

The report added that casting is being done secretly. Well-known actors in Korea went through video auditions and face-to-face meetings. 

“Squid Game” 2 is expected to be released in 2024.
