San Juan LGU launches Pinaglabanan Shrine photo, video contest


In a bid to further promote the rich history and heritage of San Juan City, the local government launched on Monday, June 12, a photo and video contest aimed at showcasing some of the city's historical sites and monuments that have a big part in achieving the country's independence.

During the commemoration of the nation's 125th Independence Day at the Pinaglabanan Shrine, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora announced the start of the Makabagong San Juan - Pinaglabanan Shrine Photo and Video Contest.

The contest tasks participants to take photos and videos of the newly relocated monuments of Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Jacinto, Jose Rizal, and the Spirit of Pinaglabanan in the shrine as well as the El Deposito Underground Water Reservoir.

Prior to their transfer, the Dr. Jose Rizal monument was located at the Plaza ng Masa, the Gat Andres Bonifacio monument was at the corner of Pinaglabanan and Valenzuela Streets, and Gen. Emilio Jacinto monument was at the corner of Pinaglabanan and P. Narciso Streets.

The relocation was initiated by the San Juan City Council through Ordinance No. 52, Series of 2021, and Ordinance No. 55, Series of 2021. The ordinances were passed on Sept. 20, 2021 and Oct. 4, 2021, respectively.

"Ito po ay bukas para sa bawat Pilipino ano mang edad, saan man kayo sa ating bansa. This is a nationwide photo and video contest na ang layunin ay mas makilala ang San Juan at ang aming bahagi sa kasaysayan ng ating bansa, at ang aming bahagi sa pagbibigay kalayaan sa bansang Pilipinas (This is open to every Filipino regardless of age or location in the country. This is a nationwide photo and video contest aiming to further recognize San Juan and our part in the history and our role in achieving the independence of our country)," Zamora said.

According to him, a total of P475,000 worth of prizes await the winners of the contest.

The mayor urged the public to check the full mechanics and criteria for the photo and video contest on his official Facebook page.

The posting dates for the event started on June 12 and will end on August 15. The awarding of winners will be held on August 30 at the Pinaglabanan Shrine during the Pinaglabanan Day commemoration.
