Solemnity of Corpus Christi on Sunday




The Roman Catholic Church observes the Solemnity of Corpus Christi on Sunday, June 11, in commemoration of the institution by Jesus Christ of the Holy Eucharist to His apostles during the Last Supper.

Church rites will be held at the Corpus Christi Parish in Tubod, Iligan City including a Eucharistic procession at 5:30 a.m. followed by Benediction rites. A holy mass will be celebrated at 6 a.m. Novena in honor of Corpus Christi were held from June 2 to 10.

At the Corpus Christi Parish in Novaliches, Quezon City, Novaliches Bishop Roberto Gaa will celebrate the fiesta mass at 9 a.m. A procession followed by a holy mass will be held at 5 p.m.

A Eucharistic Adoration will be held early in the day at 5:15 a.m., followed by a holy mass.

Commemorative rites will also be held at the Santa Cruz Parish also known as the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Pillar Parish in Manila.

Also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, the observance is a Christian liturgical solemnity celebrating the Real Presence of the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

The feast is observed by the Roman Catholic Church as well as certain Western Orthodox, Lutheran, and Anglican churches.

Every year, the Pope leads a Eucharistic procession in Rome, Italy from the Basilica of St. John Lateran to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major.

Pope Francis will skip this year’s celebration as the Pontiff is still recovering from a successful abdominal surgery. Last year, the Holy Father also missed the celebration because of his knee problem.
