A total 76 percent Filipinos believe that the country is headed in the right direction, findings in the March 2023 OCTA First Quarter survey results released on Saturday, May 6, showed.
According to the OCTA’s “Tugon ng Masa” survey conducted from March 24 to 28, 76 percent of Filipinos think the country is headed in the right direction based on the policies and programs articulated and implemented by the current administration.
Meanwhile, 10 percent think otherwise.
Across the major areas, the Visayas has the highest percentage (87 percent) of Filipinos who believe the country is headed in the right direction, followed by
Balance Luzon (77 percent).
However, only 59 percent of Filipinos in the National Capital Region (NCR) share this sentiment.
On the other hand, NCR (19 percent) has the highest percentage of Filipinos who think the country is headed in the wrong direction, followed by Mindanao (15 percent).
Across socio-economic classes, Class D has the highest percentage (78 percent) of Filipinos who think the country is headed in the right direction, followed by Class E (73 percent). In contrast, 65 percent of adult Filipinos in Class ABC believe the country is headed in the right direction.
Furthermore, Class E (17 percent) has the highest percentage of adult Filipinos who think that the country is headed in the wrong direction, followed by Class ABC (11 percent).
"Interestingly, adult Filipinos belonging to Class ABC (20 percent) have more respondents that are ambivalent about the trajectory of the country's direction compared to any other socio-economic class," OCTA said.
OCTA also stated that the positive perception about the direction of the country is also shared by the majority of Filipinos across different age groups, with the highest at the 75 years old and above age group at 87 percent, followed by the 55-64 age group at 82 percent.
Meanwhile, OCTA shared that this is a notable decline from the last quarter.
While 8 out of 10 adult Filipinos (76 percenr) think that the country is headed in the right direction, this result represents a notable decline of 9 percentage points when compared to the TNM Q4 October 2022 survey conducted last quarter, where 85 percent said that the country was headed in the right direction.
"The decline in the overall percentage of adult Filipinos who think that the country is headed in the right direction from last quarter was due to the consistent decreases across major areas and socioeconomic classes," OCTA explained.
The Tugon ng Masa survey is a non-commissioned survey, which used face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adult respondents nationwide.
