Gloria Diaz on married women, single mothers joining Miss Universe

Gloria Diaz, the country's first-ever Miss Universe titlist, is not keen on single as with married moms joining the prestigious pageant.

She believes it does not align with the idea of the tilt as a whole.

"Like sa title pa lang," she said. "May 'Miss.' So, huwag nang ‘Miss?’ Kasi, hindi na ‘Miss’ yon, ‘di ba? Dapat ‘Universe’ na lang."

She made clear she is not imposing on anyone, and that it is merely her "personal opinion."

“Kasi may mga category na puwede naman, like, Mrs. Universe, na andaming magaganda din na nanganak na. Ok lang yun.”

The Miss Universe Organization announced September last year that it will allow single and married moms to join the pageant.

Moms Eileen Gonzales, Clare Dacanay, and Joemay-An Leo have since joined Miss Universe-Philippines, which is  to crown its next queen May 10.

As to transwomen joining the pageant, Gloria said, "It’s not acceptable sa akin. Dapat may sarili silang contest."
