Eya Laure weighs in on final playing year at UST

Eya Laure remaine dunsure of her return to the UST women’s volleyball team for her final year following the Golden Tigresses’ semifinals loss on May 3.

The veteran spiker steered UST back to the Final Four where it fell to the top seed and twice-to-beat De La Salle Lady Spikers in four sets.

With her steady showing for UST, Laure continued to lead the Most Valuable Player race ahead of La Salle super rookie Angel Canino after the elimination round.

However, the 24-year-old spiker is weighing in between returning for her final year or jumping straight to the pro.

"Syempre ngayon pagod ‘yong nararamdaman ko pero for me naman, nandoon pa rin talaga ako na mag-recover after this season. Alam ko namang ibibigay ‘yan ni coach Kung Fu [Reyes] [sakin] and hindi ko din basta basta naman sasabihin na ‘oo maglalaro pa ko. Hindi ko rin naman sasabihin na hindi na siguro, magpo-pro [na] ako’,” said Laure.

"Siguro... Time will tell kung ano ‘yong para sa akin,” she added.

With the decision still up in the air, Laure scattered another impressive performance in her last game of the season with the Golden Tigresses after dropping 15 points laced by 12 excellent digs and 11 receptions.

Laure easily decorated her name in her four UAAP seasons, where she towed UST to the finals in Season 81, and was named Rookie of the Year and a runner-up MVP behind teammate Sisi Rondina.

"Ayoko kasi magmadali. Gusto ko i-open lahat ng doors muna ngayon at makikinig ako and of course, ngayon kung ano yung state ng team ngayon, syempre nandoon pa rin yung part sa puso ko na syempre gusto ko pang maglaro," said Laure.

"Sabi ko nga kanina, kung meron akong playing year hanggang Season 100, bakit naman hindi, 'di ba? Pero syempre kailangan mag-move forward pa lagi sa buhay. Ngayon, wala akong binibigay na answer," she added.

The Golden Tigresses finished with a 10-4 slate in the standings and settled for fourth place this season, where it ended the winning streaks of defending champion National University Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Spikers in the first and second round, respectively.
