In a Facebook post , Jhonalie F. Paches, the sister of Jhonelle Paches who is comatose,  thanked all those who have been giving them financial and moral support.

Based on a police report, Paches lost control and bumped into a post after his cell phone, which was tucked in his stomach, suddenly exploded while he was cruising along Quirino Highway, City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan on Sunday morning.

Paches was found unconscious with a burnt cell phone on his side by a traffic enforcer identified as Sharwen Ching-Tai.

Paches was rendered comatose and has hematoma in the brain. “Yung sunog po niya, meron siyang third degree burn dahil sa pagputok ng cellphone,” He has 3rd degree burn due to the cell phone explosion), " Jhonalie said.

Norman Oblanca, an electrical engineer, said the possible cause of the explosion was sweat getting into the cell phone.

He said, unlike rain, sweat is more dangerous, especially when absorbed by anything with electricity.

Oblanca advised the public to use a belt bag to put their cell phone in when traveling.
