BI deports 4 Japanese fugitives

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) deported on Wednesday, May 24, four Japanese nationals who are sought in their country for various criminal charges.

They were identified as Fujita Kairi, 24; Kumai Hitomi, 25; Terashima Haruma, 28; and, and Sato Shohei, 32.

They boarded a Japan Airlines flight to Narita after being labeled as undesirable aliens by the BI.

Fujita and Kumai were apprehended by the BI's fugitive search unit (FSU) on March 10 in Paranaque City.

The duo had outstanding arrest warrants issued by the Tokyo Summary Court in September 2022, charging them with theft in violation of the Japanese Penal Code.

They were suspected of involvement in the notorious "Luffy" case, which had garnered significant attention in Japan due to a series of violent crimes committed in Tokyo.

Terashima was intercepted at the BI's satellite office in SM Aura, Taguig City on February 28 while attempting to extend his tourist visa. He is  accused of impersonating a police officer and an employee of the Japan Ministry of Finance to carry out ATM card theft.

Sato, on the other hand, was arrested by FSU officers on April 24 along Newport Blvd. in Pasay City. He too was wanted in Japan for theft.

BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco emphasized his commitment to collaborating with foreign governments to ensure that the country remains free from fugitives attempting to evade justice.
