Military identifies 9 slain NPA rebels in Negros


BACOLOD CITY – The military released on Monday, May 22, the names of the nine New People’s Army (NPA) rebels killed in a series of clashes in Negros Island over the weekend.

The five casualties in three clashes between the Army 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) and the NPA in Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on May 20 were identified by their families and former comrades as Evelyn Merin, Jolevyn Ramirez, Ruben Obidas, Alvin Bayno, and Jolwar Lobiano, all members of Central Negros 1-Komiteng Rehiyon Negros Cebu Bohol Siquijor (CN1-KRNCBS).

The 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde) also identified the four other casualties in last Sunday’s clash with NPA rebels in Barangay Trinidad, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

They were Rolly Beniro, 22; Christito Nilles Jr., 27; Jury Babor, 29, and Toning Babor, 77, all residents of Barangay Trinidad and alleged members of CN1-KRNCBS.

According to the 62nd IB, the Guihlungan City Task Force-to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (GCTF-ELCAC) provided the burial requirements for the four fatalities while their families were given food packs by the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD).

The City Agriculture Office also distributed fertilizers and each family was given P3,000 cash assistance. The GCTF-ELCAC also facilitated the transportation of the cadavers to their barangays.

The 10th casualty in the clash on Sunday between the 15th IB and NPA in Barangay Caliling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, remains unidentified.
