Marikina LGU gives endorsement letters to 400 incoming PLMar students

The Marikina City local government distributed endorsement letters to around 400 incoming college students to allow them the opportunity to pursue their studies at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina (PLMar).

The endorsement letters were given by Marikina City District 1 Representative Marjorie "Maan" Teodoro, who was also appointed as the head of special admissions at PLMar.

According to Teodoro, the endorsement letters were given to students who wanted to apply to PLMar, but were unable to take the examinations since admissions had been closed.

The letters must be shown to the admissions officers at PLMar for the school administration to consider the students' appeal to take the entrance examination, she said.

After the letters were given, the recipients were allowed to choose their respective schedules for the examination, which will be conducted on Monday, July 10.

Teodoro remarked that she opened the services of her congressional office to assist the local government in helping the students enter PLMar.

"Mahalaga ang pag-aaral dahil ito lamang ang sandata na maibibigay naming mga magulang sa inyo. Hangad ko na makapagtapos kayo sa Pamantasan na itinayo ng Marikina para sa inyo (Education is important because it is the only tool that you can use in your life that we, as parents, are able to give you. I hope you will graduate from the college that Marikina has built for you)," Teodoro said.

PLMar is Marikina City's primary state-owned tertiary level educational institution that offers quality and free education for all students. The city representative said that developing the level of education in the city is one of the priority initiatives of her husband, Mayor Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro, as chief executive of Marikina.

"Sana ay pagyamanin ninyo ang pagkakataong ito (I hope you seize this opportunity)," Teodoro added.

The local government, particularly Mayor Teodoro's administration, has been actively supportive of PLMar and its students over the years. Last June 25, Mayor and Rep. Teodoro led the graduation ceremonies of the PLMar graduates for the academic year 2022 to 2023 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

The phase 2 building of the college in SSS Village, Barangay Concepcion Dos was also inaugurated on Jan. 18. The annex was constructed to accommodate more space, rooms, and facilities for the increasing number of students enrolled in PLMar.

A medical scholarship is also given by the local government, courtesy of Vice Mayor Marion Andres' office. Scholars are able to pursue their studies on medicine in partner universities with all academic and miscellaneous expenses (for examinations, equipment, etc) shouldered by the local government.
