Manila DRRMO records 1,024 fire incidents, road accidents in 2023


The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) reported on Tuesday, Jan. 2, that it recorded a total of 1,024 road accidents and fire incidents in 2023.

According to the data of the Manila DRRMO, 80 fire incidents were recorded, 61 of which happened in the city residential areas and 14 occurred at commercial establishments.
 
It said that most of the fire incidents happened in District 5, which covers barangays 649 to 828 in Ermita, Intramuros, Malate, Port Area, San Andres, and South Paco.
 
Twenty-three fire incidents happened in District 1, where barangays 1 to 146 in Tondo, west of Dagupan Street, Estero de Vitas and Estero de Sunog Apog are located.
 
According to the report, Tondo 1 and 2 had the highest number of fire incidents (25), followed by Ermita (14).

Meanwhile, a total of 944 road accidents in the city were recorded, majority of them occurred in District 5, particularly at Padre Burgos, Taft Avenue, Quirino Avenue, and Roxas Boulevard; and along the stretch of Mel Lopez Boulevard from Delpan Bridge to Capulong Street in District 1. 
 
The Manila DRRMO said that highest number of accidents were reported in the months of October and November. It stated that there were 109 accidents recorded in October and 101 in November.

Most of the people involved in the accidents were individuals aged 18 to 25 years old, followed by aged 26 to 30 years old.
