The Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas (Council of the Laity of the Philippines) will hold its 23rd Laiko National Biennial Convention this October.
With the theme “United in Mission as a Synodal Church,” the three day national convention will focus on the important role played by the lay faithful in helping spread and promote the Word of God.
The 23rd National Biennial Convention of the SLP will be held at the Summit Hotel in Tacloban City on Oct. 27 to 29.
The lay organization is the implementing arm of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines – Episcopal Commission on the Laity which is currently headed by Tarlac Bishop Enrique Macaraeg.
Bishop Macaraeg, earlier appealed to the faithful to pray for the restoration of peace in Israel and Palestine.
The bishop called on members of the Diocesan Councils of the Laity, National Lay Organizations and all lay groups to unite in prayer for peace and for an end to the conflict between Israel and the militant group Hamas.
The bishop also requested for prayers for the safety of the people amid the ongoing violence.
“We, the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas, appeal to our brothers and sisters in the Diocesan Councils of the Laity, Ecclesiastical Communities, National Lay Organizations and all Catholic lay people, to join us in praying for peace in the Holy Land. The attack on the people in that land is shocking and surprising, and we need to pray harder now for an end to the conflict, and a pathway to peace,” the SLP said in a statement.
“We also join all believers as we pray with one heart and one soul with Pope Francis. We know that our prayers will be answered, and peace will reign,” the SLP added
