Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. picked Galido as the 66th Army chief, according to the Department of National Defense (DND).

Galido is a product of the Philippine Military Academy’s “Bigkis Lahi” Class of 1990.

He handled key positions in the Army including as the commander of the 6th Infantry “Kampilan” Division (6ID) based in Maguindanao del Norte and Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) based in Zamboanga City.

“His extensive experience and well-honed skills resulted in the significant victories of his Command against lawless elements, especially in Mindanao,” DND spokesperson Arsenio Andolong said.

Galido took over from General Romeo Brawner Jr., who assumed as the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) last July 19.

“With Lt. Gen. Galido at the helm, the Philippine Army will undoubtedly and excellently pursue the strategic path set by the Commander-in-Chief in pursuit of the country’s stability amid the changing security landscape,” Andolong added.

Galido is the incumbent commander of the WesMinCom which oversees military operations in Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9), Northern Mindanao (Region 10), and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). He has been serving the post since January 2023.

Prior to this, he led the 6ID from August 2022 to January 2023.
