Aftershocks from 7.4-magnitude Surigao quake rise to 3,000


The number of aftershocks from the 7.4-magnitude earthquake in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur reached 3,098, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Phivolcs said 589 of the total aftershocks that had been recorded as of 11 a.m., were plotted by at least three stations.

Only 35 of the aftershocks, whose magnitudes ranged from 1.4 to 6.6, were felt.

Meanwhile, the number of aftershocks from the magnitude 6.8 earthquake that struck Cagwait, Surigao del Sur on Dec. 4 has risen to 982, with magnitudes ranging from 1.4 to 5.8.

Of the recorded aftershocks, 297 were plotted, while six have been felt.
